Mind What You Start
"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." - Friedrich Nietzsche
Compound interest affects all things that we do. From the man that invests money in a venture that compounds over time to the man that invests violence as a means to an end and doesn’t understand the way what he planted has grown to the man who invests in friendships and his network continues to expand beyond his imagination. All things we invest in compound. Even laziness does. “a little sleep, a little slumber...”
Our figure for today is the co-founder of Hamas – whose name is Sheik Ahmed Yassin. Hamas, a group that was established in 1987 to protect and liberate Palestine from Israel. When this group was created, it was created with one goal in mind – liberation.
The only problem with that is the fact that at some point, the system overwhelmed the goal with violence. They started by going after those who hurt and imprison them and then just violence for the fun of it.
While the co-founder of Hamas did not particularly like violence but saw it as an instrument, those who were drawn to their movement enjoyed it. Why they enjoyed it is a story for another day.
You cannot totally put a stop to an already grinding system. Once something is started, you cannot from that point predict its capacity and direction. The violence they tried to use selectively as a means to an end, overwhelmed their self-righteous system.
The advice today is this – mind what you start. While you may be able to hold yourself, many others who may be joining you or copying you may not.
Chucks.
